In our meetings, lunch breaks and retreats, you often find us recommending to each other a million books that we love or that open our eyes to new realities, so we thought, why not a bookclub at ODS? We decided on lunch meetings every couple of months to discuss a commonly selected book so that we have plenty of time to read it and not add another stressful tasks to our lists (cause bookclubs should be fun).
We got overexcited (ambitious as we are) and started with “The love songs of W.E.B. Du Bois” by Honorée Fanonne Jeffers, an 816 pages inter-generational family saga in the US that touches upon many important (and heartbreaking) subjects. If you want to learn about slavery (both of Native Americans and Africans), modern day racism, sexism and colorism in the US, this is a great place to start!
